Meet the Team
Thomas is the third Patterson boy and the youngest of six children. After graduating with a marketing degree at Canterbury University, Thomas gained further hotel experience at the Boutique Adelphi Hotel in Melbourne before working in London’s largest five star hotel which also had owner operators. “It was great education working in a large 5 star property in the centre of London.” Thomas is married to Jo and has three children, William, Lucia and Elise. Katrina’s passion for hospitality began early, helping her family run a variety of businesses, including a boutique clothing shop, eatery, and dairy. This hands-on experience sparked her interest in the industry, leading her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management. After an internship in the United States and three years as a Junior Assistant Manager at a bank in the Philippines, Katrina moved to New Zealand in 2015 to study Business Management. She quickly transitioned into the hotel industry, gaining experience in housekeeping, restaurant/event management, and as a Front Office Duty Manager. Now as the Hotel Manager at Hotel Montreal, Katrina is dedicated to delivering exceptional guest experiences. Outside of work, she enjoys biking with her husband and exploring the outdoors.
Kumendra started his professional career as an inbound travel agent in Sri Lanka, managing guests from East Asia and tailoring personalised tours of the island. After gaining valuable experience as a travel agent, I decided to expand my knowledge of the industry and enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree in International Tourism and Hospitality Management at Ara Institute of Canterbury. After completing his bachelor's, I joined Patterson’s Restaurant at the Commodore Hotel in 2020 as a team leader. During the challenges of COVID, I proved my value to the company, which led to my promotion to Restaurant Manager at Hotel Montreal. Although I had little experience in food and beverage when I first joined Patterson Hospitality Group, I quickly developed a passion for bar and restaurant service. I have since embraced the role with enthusiasm, thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to ensure guests are happy and comfortable to the best of my abilities.
Dewa began his culinary journey in 2003 as a kitchen hand in Sri Lanka, quickly developing a passion for the industry. Over the years, he has worked in prestigious five-star hotels across Dubai, Qatar, and the Maldives, including Athuruga Maldives, Burj Khalifa’s Address Hotel in Dubai, the Rotana Group, and Mövenpick in Doha. In 2016, Dewa relocated to Christchurch, New Zealand, where he has since contributed his expertise to The George Hotel, the Commodore Hotel, Fable Terrace Downs Resort, and now Hotel Montreal. His commitment to culinary excellence has earned him numerous competition wins in Sri Lanka, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and New Zealand. Dewa continues to push the boundaries of innovation and quality, crafting exceptional dining experiences for guests.
